Abstract
With morbid obesity rising to become worldly symptom in past few decades, bariatric surgery has also been rapidlydeveloping to treat obesity and its comorbid metabolic syndromes. Out of several procedures operated world-widely,laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) are definitely the most effective procedureswith no doubt. With RYGB dominating as the initial favorite, positive features of LSG are newly spotlighted and maximizedto exceed RYGB as the number one bariatric procedure. Compared to RYGB which has definite effect on weight loss andimprovement on comorbid metabolic syndrome but at the same time somewhat insecure in morbidity and aftereffect, positive attributes that LSG possess: postoperative effectiveness and stable morbidity has contributed it to become themostly used bariatric procedure in USA in 2013. Positive effects of LSG will be continuously reported as more proceduresare performed and following studies and observations are conducted. Considering such trend, comparing the advantageand disadvantage and postoperative outcomes of LSG and RYGB in context of effectiveness, safety, and confirming recenttendency is essential.
